This section will be about what factors are the greatest risks to the organization. List anything that would make it more difficult for you to continue operation. These factors can be based on factors that you identified during your environmental scan.
The risks are external factors that may happen soon that would make the organization less stable. Some examples of risks that the organization must consider are rising interest rates, losing an important grant, drops in sales, negative media coverage, industry shifts, unexpected loss of employees, supplier shutdowns, loss of transportation options, etc.
After having listed the potential risks that your organization might have to face, prioritize them based on likelihood and how damaging they would be if they did occur. Focus specifically on the few that are a combination of likely to happen and damaging to the organization. It’s not worth the time and energy to focus on those that are very unlikely, or will not have a significant impact on your organization.
Your prioritized risks should be kept in mind as the communications strategy of the organization is formed. They will also be revisited near the end of the communications plan.
